Ericeira, Onde o Mar é Mais Azul (Ericeira, where the sea is bluer)
Nas belas praias do sul (On the beautiful beaches of the south)
De doirada e fresca areia Ericeira, és tão bela e tão formosa (Of golden and fresh sand / Ericeira, you are so beautiful and so beautiful)
No desabrochar de uma rosa (In the blossoming of a rose)
Em noites de lua cheia. (On nights with a full moon.)
Says Gabriel Cardoso in his song ERICEIRA.
Indeed, this former fishing village of Portugal has a lot to offer and its beauty, ancient architecture, heavenly beaches and rich Portuguese culture are just the beginning.
Ericeira is a World Class surf zone and one of the most important World Surfing Reserves in the World.
Because of its diverse variety of waves (ranging from beachbreaks to powerful reef breaks making it suitable for surfers of all level), distinctive ecological characteristics along with rich surf culture and history, Ericeira was named as an official World Surfing Reserve by the Save the Waves Coalition in 2011. It was the second one in the World back then (now there are 12 -in 2023) and is still the only one in all Europe.
Everything you may need about this beautiful fishing and surf town is here.
